Maryann Lovering
Maryann Lovering is a watercolour artist that has been living in rural Hamilton for almost 40 years. She is proudly self-taught and has defined her work over many years by using a unique style of watercolour painting.
Her artistic style is achieved through building and layering watercolours to create dramatic and colourful pieces. Her work focuses on painting pieces that define streets, buildings, and iconic architecture of various cities throughout both Ontario and Canada.
Artistic Approach
My philosophy is to express the beauty of the city through colour and drama. I am inspired by the architectural charm of the many iconic locations around Hamilton. The unique and original architecture has defined the look of Hamilton over the years.
I combined both a warm and cool palette for these pieces and chose to layer staining paints with splashes of opaque paints to create the drama that I feel represents the city.
I would enjoy designing more paintings celebrating Hamilton’s evolving waterfront, as well as its off-the-path buildings that have defined the city’s diverse culture and historic beauty.
